Bihar government releases caste survey, puts OBC at 63%, general at 15.52.

A survey report based on caste was released by the Bihar government on Monday. Bihar has a 27.13% backward class, according to the survey.

Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the Bihar government on Monday released a survey report based on caste. The survey indicates that of the covered population, the very backward classes (EBC) make up 36.01%, the general category is 15.52%, and the BC is 27.12%. Of the people surveyed, 19.65% belong to the scheduled caste, and 1.68 percent to the ST caste.

Yadavs make up 14.26% of the OBC population according to the report, while Kushwaha and Kurmi make up 4.27% and 2.87% of the population that is covered, respectively.

In the first part of the survey, residences were marked, and family members’ names and heads were noted. In the second phase, proforma on the 17-point socioeconomic indicators—which included caste—were filled out and finished in the corresponding districts.

Approximately 2.64 lakh enumerators dispersed throughout the state, recording information on 29 million registered households based on 17 socioeconomic factors, including caste, employment, education, marital status, and land ownership. There are 214 pre-registered castes with unique codes that enumerators must select from.
